Haven: Housing and Supportive Services

A safe home is where stability begins

Kirstin's Haven provides permanent supportive housing for veterans, individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, with a case manager and supportive services that help residents rebuild their lives.

Our housing

Permanent supportive housing with people who care.

Since 2010, Kirstin's Haven, Inc. has helped homeless veterans and other adults move into safe, shared homes in Prince George's County. We received our first grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in July 2020 for our permanent supportive housing program.

Every resident has a supportive case management team that helps with everyday struggles and opens the door to the resources that make independence possible. When residents are ready, our Care program adds therapy, psychiatry, recovery and employment services from the same team.

Prince George's County Haven

Our Prince George's County homes offer furnished shared living with a case management team, referrals to partner agencies and help meeting mental, emotional and physical health needs. For residents' privacy, we do not publish home addresses.

Inside a Haven home

Residents share a furnished home with a family style kitchen and dining room, a place to cook, eat together and settle in.

Referrals and payment

How referrals and rent work.

We welcome referrals from veterans organizations, shelters, behavioral health providers, hospitals, families and individuals themselves. Many residents come to us through partners like PG House, QCI Behavioral Health, Friendship Place, DC VETS and Housing Community Services.

Depending on the referring agency, some residents receive temporary housing vouchers and supports through that agency. Others cover their own costs through income such as VA disability benefits, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), employment, Social Security or SSDI, and support from family. Our team helps every resident understand their options.

Dwight W.

Dwight came to Kirstin's Haven through a referral from PG House and lived with us for two years. During that time he found steady work and rebuilt his relationship with his wife and family. He moved home to his family, where he helps provide for his household.
