Kirstin's Haven, home

Making Individuals' Lives Better.

Helping veterans and neighbors rebuild since 2010

Kirstin's Haven brings supportive housing and CARF accredited outpatient behavioral health care together in one Camp Springs office for veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals living with mental illness, substance use or disability.

Our story

Named after a daughter, built for veterans.

Stephen Foncham founded Kirstin's Haven, Inc. in 2010 to house homeless veterans in Prince George's County. He named it after his only daughter, Kirstin, who he says is “a constant source of inspiration and the heart behind our commitment to compassion, service, and excellence.”

The first Haven home opened in Suitland in 2012 with five veterans. As residents asked for more than a place to live, the work grew into two sister organizations that now share one office and one team:

  • Kirstin's Haven, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides permanent supportive housing and supportive services. It is our Haven program.
  • Kirstin Care, LLC, founded in 2013, which runs outpatient mental health, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use, health home and employment programs. It is our Care program.

Together they operate as Kirstin's Haven, so a client can move from a Haven home to therapy, psychiatry, rehabilitation and job support without changing agencies.

A Letter from the Founder and CEO, Stephen Foncham, describing how Kirstin's Haven, Inc. and Kirstin Care, LLC serve clients through every level of care
Our clients are our greatest source of inspiration. Their voices shape our programming, drive continuous improvement, and challenge us to innovate as we expand our service capacity.

Our mission

Making individuals' lives better.

We create safe, permanent housing and coordinated behavioral health care so that the people we serve can achieve stability, self-sufficiency and a productive life in their own community.

Veterans first

We were founded to serve homeless veterans, and we approach every client's service and story with respect and without judgment.

Whole person, one team

Case managers, clinicians, nurses and employment specialists coordinate care so clients never navigate the system alone.

Independence and dignity

The goal is a stable, self-sufficient life. Support steps down as clients grow stronger.
